Tyler: Navy Pilot to Company Owner

NAVY PILOT TO PEST CONTROL COMPANY OWNER

After over a decade flying missions and training pilots in the U.S. Navy, Tyler Terronez was ready for a new challenge—one that would allow him to lead, grow and serve in a different way. Today, he’s the co-founder and president of Mission Pest Solutions, charting a course grounded in purpose and long-term opportunity.

WHY ENTREPRENEURSHIP?

“I spent eight years as a Navy pilot at Naval Air Station Jacksonville and have been an instructor since 2011. When it was time to leave the military, I considered becoming an airline pilot like many of my friends, but I wanted something different,” Tyler shares.

That “something different” turned out to be pest control. He teamed up with a fellow dad and golf buddy to explore business opportunities, and pest control quickly stood out for its stability, growth potential and recurring revenue model. In 2022, Mission Pest Solutions was born. Today, their team of five technicians and five trucks continues to grow.

THE POWER OF SUPPORT AND MENTORSHIP

One of the biggest surprises? The support network. “The industry was incredibly supportive, especially towards veterans. We reached out to business owners locally and nationwide, and they offered guidance and advice.” That spirit of mentorship helped Tyler and his team get off the ground and build a strong foundation for long-term success.

MILITARY SKILLS IN ACTION

Pest control turned out to be a natural fit for Tyler’s military mindset.

"Service members have a built-in advantage in this industry. Pest control requires structure, attention to detail, and following procedures—things we're trained to do in the military. Military service also builds strong leadership and teamwork skills, both of which are critical in pest control.”

He also appreciates the balance of autonomy and accountability. “You’re often working solo, solving problems with customers, but still part of a team with a shared mission.”

BUILDING A NEW MISSION

While the transition to civilian life came with its challenges, Tyler has no regrets. “The transition wasn’t easy, but building something from the ground up has made it all worth it.”

Working side by side with his partner and small team, Tyler finds daily purpose in what they’re creating—providing quality service to customers while continuing to grow as a company and as a leader.
