Eric: DOD SkillBridge Intern at Rambo Total Pest Control
Military Intelligence to Pest Control Pioneer
Master Sergeant Eric Fugate, currently serving as an Operations Superintendent (Geospatial Intelligence Analyst) at the Joint Intelligence Operations Center, US Indo-Pacific Command, has dedicated his life to serving his country. Now, after 20 years in the United States Air Force, Eric is preparing for a new chapter through the Department of Defense (DOD) SkillBridge program and his internship with Rambo Total Pest Control.
Why SkillBridge?
The DOD SkillBridge Program is a military hiring program that offers active-duty service members the chance to gain civilian work experience during their last six months of service. Eric saw it as an opportunity to explore new career paths and apply his military skills in a civilian setting: “The SkillBridge program offers an invaluable opportunity for service members to explore civilian careers before their transition. It provides us with a platform to test our skills in real-world scenarios and discover our potential beyond the uniform.”
Why Pest Control?
Drawn to the tangible problem-solving nature of pest control, Eric recognized parallels between his military experience and the industry. The ability to use data and environmental factors to create effective solutions mirrored the analytical skills he honed during his military service. Eric was also attracted to the positive impact professional pest control can have on public health and safety, which aligns with his values. “A well-integrated Pest Management Program can stabilize complex ecosystems and promote healthier communities,” Eric says.
Hands-On Training and Support
Through his internship at Rambo Total Pest Control, Eric gained valuable hands-on experience. “Pest control is more than just applying a solution. It involves mastering chemistry, biology, and customer service, all essential components of a successful Pest Management Professional (PMP)” Eric shares. He also appreciated the support and teamwork at Rambo Total Pest Control. “The team welcomed me and made sure I had access to all the training and support I need,” he says. This supportive environment helped Eric apply his classroom knowledge from SkillBridge to real-world situations.
Military Skills 🤝 Pest Control
Eric’s military background equipped him with the skills needed to thrive in pest control. “The military and pest control both require flexibility, patience, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to changing situations,” Eric notes. These skills, along with a strong work ethic and professionalism, have been the foundation of his success in his internship.
The Future is Bright
Eric sees a promising future in pest control. With opportunities for continued education, certifications and specialization, he believes the possibilities are endless. The industry offers stability, growth, and the chance to make a positive impact on the environment and communities.
Encouraging Other Veterans
Eric encourages other service members to consider a career in professional pest control. For those transitioning to civilian life, Eric’s journey highlights how military skills can be valuable in new meaningful ways. The pest control industry provides a mix of technical challenges and community service, making it a great choice for those who want to make a difference after their military careers.
